placed a hand on his arm, trying to sound as gentle and harmless as possible. “Mr. Reid, she’s just a
young woman who’s been tricked. There’s probably a better way to handle this. Would you like to give
it some thought?”

Her voice calmed him down a little. He took deep breaths, then let Doris go and put his hands behind
his back.

Doris gasped and tried to catch her breath. She’d never felt this glad to be able to breathe.

He didn’t say anything, merely watching her emotionlessly.

After catching her breath, she ran over to Erin and hid behind her, keeping a hand on her arm. She
shouted at Darius, “This just proves how evil you are! You were going to kill me because you were
angry!”

After a few moments of silence, Darius said, “You shouldn’t have mentioned Sarah. She betrayed me in
front of everyone, and I was the last to know she’d cheated on me. I don’t need to explain to you, but
I’m willing to let you off the hook this time because you’re stealing from others for a good reason.
