Carl turned to Sherry with a smile. “President William here says that he’s your uncle. Why didn’t you tell
me that your uncle would be here? I’d have prepared something nice for him.”

Matthew seemed very flattered by this and stated courteously, “You’re too kind, Young Master Sager.”

Sherry did not even spare Matthew a look as she turned to Carl. “I’m an orphan. I don’t have parents
nor do I have any uncles.”

Sherry remarked contemptuously, “I have no idea, he’s probably making things up.”

She grabbed a glass of wine and promptly walked away.

There were a few men who joined in the circle midway through the conversation.

When they saw how Carl and Sherry walked away without even bothering to excuse themselves, they
turned to Matthew with a disgusted look on their faces, belittling him with their expressions.

“I can’t believe it, we’ve been duped.”

“Where does he find the audacity to tell Young Master

“Then what happened to your lipstick?” he leaned in closer as he asked this until his face was inches
away from hers.

Sherry backed away immediately and seemed unnerved by this question. “I went to eat something after
that, I probably accidentally smeared my lipstick without noticing.”

Carl smiled coyly. “I see, it looks more like you made out with someone while you were in the toilet. Are
you sure that’s not what happened?”

Something quivered in Sherry’s eyes, she quickly turned away and pretended to grab something to eat
to get away from this chain of questioning.

Carl was relentless. “Sherry, Young Master Sager didn’t try to take advantage of my absence and get to
you just now, did he?”

Sherry was boiling over with irritation by this point and snapped. “Carl, could you shut up for a
second?”



Carl cocked an eyebrow and gently danced the tips of his fingers around Sherry’s bottom lips. “It
seems like my future wifey is being harassed by another man right in my presence, and you’re telling
me I’m not allowed to ask about what happened?”

A sharp look surfaced in Sherry’s eyes. “Do you want me to slap you?”

Carl hurriedly withdrew his hand. “Don’t be mad, I was just kidding around.”

Sherry ignored him and continued sipping from her wineglass.

Carl remained standing next to her, only without touching her now. From time to time, he would dart his
eyes across the crowd of people.

In the far back of the crowd.

There stood a tall and slender man who was leaning against the wall. Underneath his lens was a
piercing and ominous gaze which fixed itself intently on Sherry.

He clenched his fingers tightly around the wineglass and seemed like he would break it with sheer
force.

“John.” Suddenly, Julie’s voice sounded from behind him.

His expression softened slightly and his tight frown departed as well. Still, his eyes were fixed in the
direction of Sherry and Carl.

Julie walked up to him and followed his gaze to see Sherry and Carl at the opposite edge of the venue.
She remarked after that, “So the president of Sager Corporation they were talking about all this time
was Sherry. That’s a surprise.”

John took a sip of wine and did not utter a word.



Julie added, “The two of them seem very close, they’re not together, are they?”

John’s eyes flashed with ice as he turned to Julie sharply.

Julie had never seen John confront her with such a sharp look. She turned pale immediately and
enquired worriedly, “John, what’s the matter? Was it something I said?”
